Wednesday’s Child may not be a very good chamber piece, but it will always have a special place in my heart. It is the first project I wrote, the first time I worked with my mum and my girlfriend, and the first time I thought that maybe I could find a future in the film industry. I knew that I would be attending college to study journalism, but I wanted to shoot something fun before I left. We shot the whole thing on an ancient Panasonic GH3 with a Chinese cardioid mic and a twenty dollar steadicam, and I tried to cover for the failing auto-focus with clever audio design. I paid sixty dollars to submit the film to Cannes, and they politely turned me down.
